What do you need to know?

Sweeping and servicing

Choosing the right appointment.

What is the difference between a chimney sweep and a stove service?

A sweep removes deposits and obstructions from the flue. A complete stove service goes further by dismantling accessible components, cleaning and assessing the appliance, checking seals and consumable parts, and restoring it properly where possible.

How much does a standard chimney sweep cost?

A lined chimney sweep starts at £69. An unlined chimney, open fire, double-sided stove, boat stove, wet-back appliance or cooker sweep is £99. Where a complete sweep and service is required for one of these appliances, prices start at £179.

What does the premium sweep and stove service cost?

The premium sweep and complete stove service starts at £159. Replacement parts or additional remedial work are quoted separately.

Why do different chimneys have different prices?

A lined stove flue, unlined masonry chimney, open fire and specialist appliance do not involve the same access, deposits, dismantling or workload. Clear starting prices help match the fee to the work involved.

Will the work make a mess?

Embers protects the route and working area, uses professional dust-control equipment and cleans up carefully. Customers regularly mention the clean process in their reviews.

CCTV and inspections

Looking beyond the fireplace.

How much is a CCTV chimney inspection?

A standard CCTV inspection is £100, with sweeping charged separately. A lined flue sweep plus CCTV inspection is £169; an unlined chimney or open-fire sweep plus CCTV is £199.

When is CCTV useful?

It is useful when investigating suspected blockages, damage, installation concerns, recurring performance problems or where visual evidence from inside the flue will guide the next decision.

What is the new-homeowner inspection?

The £219 base inspection is a thorough current-condition assessment where installation certification has not been issued, cannot be located or the history is unclear. It includes a sweep, CCTV inspection, visual assessment, smoke testing and written findings.

Does the homeowner inspection provide a HETAS sign-off?

No. It is not retrospective installation certification or building-control approval. It records the accessible current condition and provides practical findings and peace of mind.

What if the HETAS certificate has been lost?

Contact HETAS first to ask whether they hold installation information or a certificate record. If the paperwork cannot be obtained, an Embers inspection can assess current accessible conditions but cannot recreate or replace the original certificate.

Glass, firebricks and parts

Identification starts with evidence.

What should I send for replacement stove glass?

Send the make and model, a full front view of the stove and door, a close-up showing the glass shape and damage, exact measurements where possible, your postcode and whether you need supply, fitting or postage.

Can Embers fit the replacement glass?

Yes, where location and appliance condition allow. Fitting is quoted separately. Glass may also be supplied or posted when fitting is not required.

How much do replacement firebricks cost?

Small replacement bricks start at £15, increasing with size, material and intricacy. Custom cutting and fitting are quoted according to the work required.

What if I cannot remove or measure the firebricks?

Do not force them. Peter can assess the bricks during a stove service and quote for suitable replacements while on site.

Where can I see complete brick sets?

Full stove-specific brick sets can be viewed through Direct Stove Spares. Embers can help identify what is required and whether on-site fitting is appropriate.

Booking and preparation

Help the appointment run smoothly.

What should I send with my first enquiry?

Send your full postcode, the service required, a clear full view of the stove or fireplace and any relevant close-ups, make/model information or history. The guided Contact and Booking page prepares the right WhatsApp message for you.

How do I check whether Embers covers my area?

Embers works across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Send the full property postcode on WhatsApp for a clear availability check, especially for villages or county-border addresses.

Should the appliance be cold?

Yes. Do not use the stove or fire before the appointment; it must be cool enough to work on safely. If you are given specific preparation instructions for your booking, follow those.

What if there may be a bird nest in the chimney?

Tell Embers before booking. Active wild-bird nests are legally protected while in use or being built, so the timing and lawful next step must be considered. See the official GOV.UK guidance.

How much is bird-nest removal?

Where removal can lawfully and safely proceed, the price starts at £150 for the first hour and £30 per additional hour.

Should I send payment details on WhatsApp?

No. Never send card details or unnecessary personal documents in the initial WhatsApp enquiry.
